Yeast infection and how it can be treated?


If we are to discuss women’s health, there can be many allergies and diseases affecting them. One of the infections is yeast and that vaginal yeast infection is really uncomfortable. It causes irritation, discharge and itching as well. This type of yeast infection is much common as 1 out of 4 women get it at least at some stage in life.
Yet, vaginal yeast infection is treatable and can be managed by simpler medicines and home remedies too.
Causes
There can be many causes for yeast infection in vagina. Some women get during period time and others get it during pregnancy because of hormonal changes. It is possible that some birth control pills can increase the cause for the risk of this infection too.
It should be noted that yeast is fungal in nature and can exist live anywhere in the body. Yet, the immune system prevents it from growing out of control. But when yeast multiplies aggressively in vagina, it leads to the infection respectively.
Yeast infections like vaginal one can also be caused by sexually transmitted diseases too. Women that are suffering from diabetes are at a high risk of getting this ailment. Reason being high sugar level promotes the growth of fungi in vagina.
Treatment of disease
Different means to treat yeast or vaginal yeast infection are given below.

  1. Antifungal Cream: The over the counter medicines to treat yeast come in form of ointment, suppository or a cream. Popular product brands are Vagistat and Monistat. These are commonly available at grocery and drug stores.
    Both these medicines are effective much for those who are having mild yeast infections.
  2. Tea Tree Oil: This is an essential tea tree oil that gets extracted from the leaves of the tea tree. Name of the tree s Melaleuca Alternifolia respectively. This oil is effective in removing virus, bacteria and even fungus too.
    A cream having tea tree oil when applied on vagina can cure the yeast infection in it too. Moreover, oil also has good aroma that helps to maintain healthy balance for vagina’s flora.
  3. Boric Acid: Boric acid has wonderful anti-fungal and antiseptic properties. Normally it is used once a day for a period seven days. Amazing part of boric acid is that it becomes the last resort even if other medicine have failed to treat yeast infection.
    But care should be taken that boric acid ahold not be used for open wounds as it can cause irritation.
  4. Yoghurt: Fact is that yoghurt comprises of good bacteria. The good bacteria is similar to being found in vagina too. So, eating yoghurt can maintain the proper balance of the good bacteria and prevent growth of yeast completely.
    Prevention
    a. Use of unscented products: Some products like pads, few soaps, tampons and other detergents do harm by irritating vagina. They in fact trigger imbalance towards good bacteria. Usage of unscented items like gentle cleansers can improve is effective but fragrant ones should be avoided at all cost.
    b. Wear cotton underwear: Experts suggest that women should only wear loose fitting panties or underwear. They should be made out of cotton as cotton allows more air to fly towards the genital area.
